I’m sure most of you have heard about the recent Netflix changes. If not, I’ve also included a screenshot of the email that I received. Long story short, Netflix is creating two different subscription plans:
- Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
- Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray), 2 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $14.99 a month
- Currently, Netflix has a poor selection when it comes to their streaming content. This is the main reason why I still opt to receive the physical media. Poor selection being the scenario that it takes a significant about of time (sometimes a year) before a movie will make if from the theater to the streaming library or the movie never makes it to the library. Also, some movie companies are choosing to not have their content with Netflix.
- This could be the perfect opportunity for ISPs to start capping their monthly bandwidth or start charging more for their monthly plans. As the demand for more bandwidth goes up the supply could go down – sorry for the poor economics cliche.
